The Paragon Standard
Boilers have a wide range of operation, and how they are setup and operate is dependent upon the installer. Because of that, we spend a significant amount of time inside classrooms to properly educate our technicians and installers on the importance of proper system calibration and setup. Prior to the completion of your installation, our installer will adjust the system to operate with optimal efficiency by adjusting the curve and flow to its ideal set points for conserving energy.
Proper Air Separation
In any boiler system, the focus is often incorrectly placed on the largest component, which is the boiler itself. In reality, next to the system’s design and layout, the air removal system is truly the most vital component in achieving proper operation. The air removal system is what helps to remove the air from the system while refilling it with water. This system should comprised of these major components: the air separator, an expansion tank, an auto feeder, and a back flow device. To avoid unnecessary failure during the cold winters, we replace all of these components on every boiler replacement we conduct.
Not all systems operate the same way, and this is due to the selected components and the piping design. Piping layouts will always vary from one application to the next. Our goal when creating a piping layout is efficient boiler operation and so, when possible, we will do a primary-secondary, which provides the boiler with a dedicated boiler pump. Another important piping strategy is constant flow, which helps to provide better heating during milder months and balanced heat for larger spaces. We incorporate constant circulation when applicable.
The water for any boiler is the medium by which the heat is transferred from the device to the occupied space. As this water becomes contaminated with iron, particulates, or incorrect pH, its ability to transfer heat either in or out becomes compromised. When replacing a boiler is it important to be aware of this and to address cleaning the boiler water within the scope. This does not mean only flushing and purging, but rather it is a process which occurs after flushing the system where we will add a cleaner, allow it to sit for 24 hours, followed by adding a treatment to the system to preserve the system water.
Boiler Fill and Expansion System
This part of the boiler system consists of the components which are used to maintain boiler pressure while ideal and in operation. These components when put together properly provide serviceability to the expansion tank for periodically checking pressure, serviceability to PRV by checking operation and ability to check system pressure. This kit should be installed as drawn on the drawing which is supplied with the kit. Note that for regular maintenance an expansion tank should be installed so that it can be regularly and easily drained so the bladder pressure can be checked.
A new boiler installation is only as intelligent as its configuration and user interaction tell it to be. That is why we place a strong emphasis on educating all of our customers on how the new boiler system works and how it is intended to be used and operated. At Paragon, we understand that our customers hire us mainly because you don’t have the time or desire to become boiler experts on their own. This doesn’t end at the installation itself. We carry the education through the tutorial, through the future maintenance visits, and all the way through to repair when necessary.
